Good visibility of the markings, even in wet weather is essential if the safety of road users is to be ensured. In the day time visibiltiy is obtained by using light coloured products which contrast with the darker colour of the road surface. At night, the horizontal markings are rendered visible by the addition of glass micro-beads. They make it possible to reflect the light from a vehicle's headlights back to the driver: this is called retro-reflection of light.

The incorporation of treated micro-beads in the marking products increases their wear resistance and thus ensures greater durabity in use. long term retro reflection is re-inforced by the possible inclusion of pre-mixed microbeads in suspension in the Road marking products.

Surface roughness is an important element in safety, particularly in crossings and lanes. Sprinkling with micro-beads which are embedded to give depth, possibley mixed with anti-skid aggregates, makes it possible to obtain the levels of high roughness.
